Local Groups

Some of the most important speaking engagements are small / local groups. Building a community and helping support each other is essential to growing our practice, so I’m always glad to hear from folks looking to expand their knowledge and grow their network.

Tools used: Keynote, PowerPoint, and Google Slides.

MIAD Career Expo

2016: Day in the life of a Social Media Designer (at Kohl’s)
Gave a presentation to a social media class about what I did at work, from planning and strategy sessions, to showing off our content calendar, plus pictures from on-set and on-location shoots.

2016-2018: Communication Design => Web/UI Design
Was part of their career fair events where students were talking to industry professionals to help decide which program to go into based on what kind of things we’ve done with our MIAD degree / education.

BUX 2019

August 15, 2019 — Card Sorting Tutorial & Group Exercises
The BUX event is something my boss at the time ran for Brady Global developers and project managers to better understand what design, research, and other UX partners were up to and help them potentially gain new skills and methods of doing their own work.

I gave a talk and group presentation about Card Sorting exercises, when they’re useful, and how an open vs closed Card Sort can give you pretty different information!

BrewCityUX (BCUX)

Expert Panel on Accessibility (April 2020 – Online)
This event was supposed to be in-person and take place right when the COVID-19 pandemic began raging in Wisconsin, so it was rescheduled and done online over Zoom.

Myself and three others gave a detailed overview of how we incorporate Accessibility (A11y) best practices into our UX Design & Research methods, then answered some submitted and then live questions from the 72+ people who tuned in to watch!
